FORT WORTH — The Denton Lady Broncos captured the District 5-5A golf team championship Wednesday in dominating fashion, Ryan’s Bailey Wiley and Denton’s Justin Reinhardt earned berths at the regional tournament and Ryan and Denton had strong finishes to take second and third, respectively, in the boys division at Champions Circle.
The Lady Broncos finished the tournament with a two-day total of 748, while Sherman was second at 911 and Braswell third with a 935.
Wiley had the second best two-day total in the girls’ division with a 176 (83-93) to qualify for the Class 5A Region I tournament on April 25 and 26 at Rawls Golf Course in Lubbock. Reinhardt earned his place at the regionals with a 36-hole total 160 (78-82). He will compete in Lubbock on April 23 and 24.
Klarissa Villanueva led Denton with a 36-hole total of 175 (86-89). Jamie Cervantes had a 185 (92-93), Ana Reed finished at 190 (94-96) and Sara Brewington had a 198 (98-100).
Allison Powell led Braswell with a 200 (103-97). Leilani Rife was second for the Lady Bengals with a 237 (114-123), Magan Dickey had a 249 (134-115) and Abigail Hammond a 260 (142-118).
Wichita Falls Rider won the boys title with a total of 677. Ryan was second at 730 and Denton third at 742. Braswell finished fifth at 799.
Tyler Jones led the Raiders with a 176 (90-86). Rock Bakken had a 179 (88-91), John David Plunk finished at 178 (89-89) and Christian Perches came in with a 197 (96-101).
Reinhardt led Denton with a 160 (78-82) total. Jackson Fite had a 183 (88-95), Carson Kress finished at 199 (95-104) and Will Holtz had a 200 (97-103).
PJ Railey led Braswell with a 195 (101-94). Dallin Mecham had a 197 (99-98), Luke Johnson had a 210 (110-100) and Trey Pierce a 211 (95-106).
